So, Jarome is scoring at about a 25 goal pace.... do they sign him for one more year? |

Sure it's amusing. You've got the Selke Winner, The Norris winner, a top Team Canda center, another Team Canada defenseman, Team USA starting goalie(injured but played last two years and had a suitable replacement this year), a oft injured but still the top winger for Team Europe, two young guns (one coming of a 31 goal season), and you still can't score goals, win some games. On top of that go out like female doges last year while leading most of the way to only your second division crown ever. Pathetic.
Lucic was lost from last year, sure. But would you really give gim the contract the Oil offered? Never! Sure he was replaced by scrubs who all found their way to the AHL. Still, I have no doubt their is cancer in the locker room and that cancer is Darryl Sutter. The players don't like him. Last time they played like this (actually they are worse now), was for Terry Murray who they didn't much like playing for either. Anway, we all know the story of DS coming in, hugging players for the camera, getting Jeff Carter, winning two Cups in three years, and then things going sour when the Cup champion misses the playoffs, Richards downfall, the Voynov disaster. It was adversity that this still talented team seemingly can't recover from. But does every team not face adversity at one time or another? Do you still play with passion or wait just to punch your ticket in and out? Clearly it's time for some tweaks and you start by firing Sutter. |

An important piece of context is that all but one of Kopitar's five goals since the trade deadline have been powerplay goals. That's not exactly the "heating up" that people were expecting of him and hardly means that he's hot or even just playing well. Powerplay goals are nice, but his 4 EV points, -6 and team-worst CF/60 and SC/60 since the trade deadline tell you more about how he's been playing. |

i actually wouldnt be opposed to it if you find ways to shed gaborik and brown's contracts miraculously in the offseason. keep jarome on the 3rd line and for pp duty, but also for leadership to support kopi, carter and doughty. |

Seems like the question is more "Is he willing to come back to LA?" Have to imagine he wants to go wherever he thinks his best chance of winning a Cup is, and most contending teams would be happy to sign him to a cheap contract with bonuses for performance.
(Not saying Kings won't contend next year, just that Iginla might not look at them as the safest bet after missing playoffs this year.) |

If Sutter returns, they won't be a safe bet to make it. Again. |

It could be a bit of a catch-22. If LA doesn't make big changes, particularly to the coaching staff, to infuse new optimism into the team, Iginla could have doubts about them contending and search out a more likely contender. On the other hand, if they do fire Sutter, his coach from the Calgary days, there would go one of the few reasons to stay in LA. Either way, he has good reason to leave, and then add in the fact that LA can't offer him much money because of the cap. |
